The history of Kohjin's biochemicals originated, when the production of yeast with the use of fermentation technique of wood-derived saccharide was started in 1962 (the 37th year of Showa) in the Saiki Factory which had produced dissolved pulp.

Since then, we have developed and improved the microbial fermentation technologies for about half a century and have accumulated affluent know-how and data. Making the most of this ingenious technologies and the biggest scale fermentation facility in the world, Kohjin satisfies various needs for pharmaceutical and food industries, and is also actively involved in the leading-edge biotechnology such as cell fusion and bioreactor.

Taking a scientifically approach to human life using biotechnology

Yeast is one of the most common microorganisms in human life, because it is vital to produce beer, sake, soybean paste, soy sauce, and etc. Kohjin started yeast culturing and subsequently has accumulated various technologies on culturing and refinement through treating various microorganisms, while has developed high value-added products making best use of our biotechnology and making much of those key words, "nature, health, and safety".

Our department is devoted to the feedstuff field which support dietary life, health food field which contributes to keep health maintenance, and medical and diagnostic product field. Kohjin totally supports people to have enriched human life through the products in these fields.

Company History
1953 Apr. Saiki Factory started its operation as a production factory for dissolved pulp.
1962 July Production start of yeast and ribonucleic acid using pulp wastewater fermentation technique.
1968 Apr. Production start of L-GLUTATHIONE derived from yeast.
1976 Jan. Production start of Co-A derived from yeast extract.
1983 Sept. Discontinuation of pulp wastewater fermentation and totally switch over of raw material to glucose.
1986 Dec. Production start of XANTHAN GUM KOHJIN.
1987 Jan. Production start of "AROMILD".
1997 Sept. Discontinuation of dissolved pulp business.
1999 May Completion of second 200KL gyle.
2002 May Placing on the market of "AJIPULSE BF".
